On Thursday (30), Starnav receives the tug “Starnav Alpha“, which will operate in the Port of Rio Grande (RS). This is the eighth and final unit of the series of azimuth tugboats of the escort tug type of 80 tons of “bollard pull” built by the Detroit shipyard in Itajaí (SC).

In addition to attracting attention due to its power, it also stands out for its high level of automation (ABCU – Automatic Bridge Centralized Control Unmanned), FIFI 1 external fire fighting system, bow winch render-recovery and GMDSS A3 radio communication system.

All eight vessels entered into operation in the main Brazilian ports during the last 10 months and their construction was financed by the Fundo da Marinha Mercante (FMM), with BNDES as financial agent.

Starnav also has an order for the construction of four more tugs of the same type at the Santa Catarina shipyard. The company points out that the orders reinforce its commitment to the Brazilian port support market.
