GONDAN signs contract to build a second offshore tug for Østensjø Rederi

This high-capacity sister vessel, designed to operate in the most demanding marine environments, marks the 23rd construction by the shipyard for the Norwegian shipowner

GONDAN Shipbuilders has signed a new contract to build a new offshore tug for Østensjø Rederi, based on the Skipsteknisk ST-933 design and a sister vessel to the tug ordered last November by the Norwegian shipowner.

Measuring 50 metres in length, with a maximum beam of 17 metres and a bollard pull of 150 tonnes, the new tug has been designed to operate in highly demanding offshore environments. Its DP-2 dynamic positioning system provides high precision and manoeuvrability, whilst its innovative configuration allows for towing operations from both the bow and the stern using a single, high-powered combined thruster.

The project incorporates significant advances in efficiency, sustainability and operational flexibility. The tug will feature a hydrodynamic design optimised using advanced computational simulation tools, a hybrid architecture with a direct current electrical distribution network, and provision for the future use of methanol as fuel. This configuration will enable the operating mode to be adapted to the vessel’s actual load profile, reduce fuel consumption and emissions, and facilitate future integrations such as batteries or fuel cells, without the need for major structural modifications. All of this makes the vessel a compact, versatile and highly efficient solution for towing, escort and offshore support operations.

Once again, GONDAN would like to thank Østensjø Rederi for the trust they have placed in our shipyard. This new contract marks the 23rd vessel built for the Norwegian shipowner, consolidating a long-standing relationship based on collaboration, mutual trust and the development of high value-added naval projects.
