Svitzer Europe boost fleet with two new built tugs

Svitzer introduces two new tractor tugs to its European fleet aiming to improve the mobility between ports in the region.

Svitzer, a leading provider of harbour and terminal towage to the global shipping industryhas bought two new built vessels. As part of the pan European fleet, the Svitzer Vale will initially be introduced in the port of London during the first week of May. In July, the Svitzer Meridian will go into London and relief Svitzer Vale. The Vale will then join the fleet in the Scandinavia & Germany cluster.

Kasper Friis Nilaus, Managing Director, Svitzer Europe says: “Onshore and afloat, we are excited to welcome the new built Svitzer Vale and Svitzer Meridian. From a business perspective, adding two tugs to the fleet will reinforce our ability to activate our fleet across ports to ensure we offer the right service in the right port.”

“Accommodating the industry’s natural demand for mobility, our ability to combine an extensive portfolio of ports with a fleet ready to flex regionally gives us the possibility to optimise the utilisation of our assets. In the current market situation, it is crucial to both keep vessels busy and balancing workloads when aiming to run a lean business.”

The new vessels have been built in Turkey and delivered by Sanmar. The tugs are sister vessels and both perform 70 tonnes bollard pull providing an immense manoeuvrability and power allowing both faster and more precise towage service. Both tugs are a Robert Allen Traktor design. The accumulated fleet in Svitzer Europe now adds up to 113 tugs.
