Named Salim Duzgit after the founder of its new owners, the Duzgit Company, this multipurpose vessel is the first of a brand new Sanmar Shipyard Series based on the Robert Allan Limited RAlly 1900 SX design and called by the leading Turkey-based builder as the Poyrazköy Class after a local coastal town. This is a different type of vessel to the usual and well established product normally associated with the collaboration between Sanmar and the Canadian naval architects which typically concentrates on a broad portfolio of ASD and tractor tugs. Significantly most of the fruits of this cooperation are destined for international customers, whereas this vessel is for the domestic Turkish market.
Specially designed for the owner for service around Istanbul in the busy Bosphorus area and incorporating numerous unique requirements, the 19.91m x 7.0m x 1.8m draft vessel is built to Rina class and is capable of undertaking many different tasks including crew boat service, construction and maintenance work, cargo transportation and light towing. Indeed a version is already envisaged with either a tow hook or winch and with lowered transom bulwarks. The large 65m2 clear working deck can be used for moving cargo or equipment, marine contracting and construction work, navigation aid maintenance and anchor-handling. There is a hold available for cables and other equipment. Loading and unloading are handled by a Kama knuckle boom deck crane.
Noteworthy features include exceptionally large windows in the 12-seater passenger saloon, and an excellent aft deck view from the wheelhouse, all courtesy of large window units. The hull is protected by the provision of a push bow and heavy duty fenders with fendering supplied by Ermakasan to individual customer requirements. The wheelhouse visibility is enhanced by the provision of three forward and one aft pantograph window wipers manufactured in Turkey. The centre windows both fore and aft are heated. The seats in the passenger cabin are particularly significant being of heavy duty type by local specialist Balmarine. All have separate foundations and are fitted with seat belts.
There are separate dedicated toilet facilities for passengers and crew and sleeping quarters are provided for four crew members comprising two twin berth cabins. These are located adjacent to a private mess and pantry. The internal fit-out is to Sanmar’s usual impressively high standard with the floors covered with IMO approved simulated teak covering.
Propulsion is by twin fixed pitch propellers driven by Volvo D13 main engines developing 404kW through ZF reverse/reduction gearboxes giving a top speed of about 11.5 knots. Kort nozzles can be fitted for appreciably better towing performance. The open propellers fitted to Salim Duzgit are four-bladed and have a diameter of 940mm. Wet exhausts through the sides are standard. A single 27.5eKW Aksa Onan generator is the normal setup with a second being optional.
Commented Hakan Tunc, Sanmar’s Project Manager, “We have worked very closely with the owner and Robert Allan Limited on this vessel and think that we have come up with an excellent and exceptionally versatile craft. We anticipate strong demand from a number of international owners for further vessels of this type and have already started construction of a sister vessel in anticipation of this demand.”
